چکیده
Several types of lignocellulosic raw materials including wheat straw, sisal bagasse and sugarcane bagasse have different contents of cellulosic components. In our studies, aimed at isolating cellulose-degrading actinobacteria from Brazilian soils, a promising strain was selected and identified as Streptomyces sp. SLBA-08. This strain was tested for cellulase production under submerged fermentation in a mineral medium using different carbon sources (sisal bagasse, sugarcane bagasse and straw), as well as ammonium sulphate in different concentrations as nitrogen source. The results showed that medium containing 2.4% (w/v) sisal bagasse and 0.3% (w/v) ammonium sulphate resulted in the highest production of carboxymethylcellulase (1.11 U mL), after 48 hours. The pH and temperature profile showed optimal activity at pH 6.0 and 50 °C. As for thermostability, carboxymethylcellulases were tolerant at 50 °C, retaining 70% of the maximal activity even after 2h of incubation. The results obtained indicate that Streptomyces sp. SLBA-08 was capable of producing CMCase using lignocellulosic residues, especially sisal bagasse.

Byssinosis: the acute effect on ventilatory capacity of dusts in cotton ginneries, cotton, sisal, and jute mills.
Studies of ventilatory capacity change in small groups of employees during a shift in a cotton mill and in three cotton ginneries in Uganda, a sisal factory in Kenya, and a jute mill in England, have demonstrated that an effect is produced by the dust in the cotton mill and in a very dusty ginnery but not in two other less dusty ginneries. No significant effect was detected in the sisal factory...

In 1838 the French chemist Anselme Payen discovered and isolated cellulose from green plants [1-2]. After more than 170 years of the discovery of the “sugar of the plant cell wall”, consumers, industry and government are increasingly demanding products from renewable and sustainable resources that are biodegradable, non-petroleum based, carbon neutral and at the same time generating low environ...
متن کاملComparison of thermal behavior of natural and hot - washed sisal fibers based on their main components : cellulose , xylan and lignin . TG - FTIR analysis of volatile products
This paper presents in a comprehensive way the thermal behavior of natural and hot-.washed sisal fibers, based on the fundamental components of lignocellulosic materials: cellulose, xylan and lignin. The research highlights the influence exerted on the thermal stability of sisal fibers by other constituents such as non-cellulosic polysaccharides (NCP) and mineral matter. Thermal changes were in...
متن کاملA New Generation of Composite Materials from Agro-based Fiber
Agro-based fibers are classified according to what part of the plant they come from. Five different fiber classifications will be used in this report: (1) bast or stem fibers, which are the fibrous bundles in the inner bark of the plant stem running the length of the stem; (2) leaf fibers, which run the length of leaves; (3) seed-hair fibers; (4) core, pith or stick fibers, which form the low d...
متن کاملThe influence of stereochemistry of the active compounds on fluoride adsorption efficiency of the plant biomass
Several studies have reported various defluoridation capabilities of plant biomasses. The resultant variations in fluoride removal capacities are associated with the presence of different types of active functional groups in the respective biomasses. This study reports of the fluoride removal efficiencies of sisal leaf biomass in comparison. Comparison with other plant biomasses were made and h...
